We can’t outsmart ‘Nature’
A Satirical View
We think we’re above nature, so we try to control it. We abuse it, harm it, exploit it, and turn all our systems against it! We celebrate left brains that say nature is a ‘beast’ and see men in white coats as our modern-day priests. ‘Nature' — nothing but a means to an end, a dead rock floating as a random event.
Yet now? Now we try to save ourselves from it. So we treat it as a force that must be bound and gaslit. We feed cows garlic and build aquatic walls, we block the sun and modify the clouds. ‘Nature’ — wild, problematic and devoid of soul, once again, a threat that must be contained and controlled.
But hear, hear! There may be no need to fret because we have saviours and rescuers who are above the rest. Evolution? A process that can be designed from top-down. Same rules? Not for the cool kids in town. Intelligence? Data that can be augmented and surpassed. The laws of nature? Broken by shared (in)vested interest. Homo Sapiens, the ‘most intelligent species on earth’ — now acting as if it can control the living world’s course!
I must admit, the rebel inside me also wants to challenge truisms and bend reality. But with how these changes are coming our way, I can’t help but think we’re being led astray. And so unsure whether to feel amusement or terror — my way to navigate this edge is through sarcasm and humour.
The thing about nature is that we can’t outsmart it. We can’t forever destroy, control and go against it. Why? Because we’re misunderstanding its essence, thinking it’s something outside of us in the first place!
What we do to nature, we also do to ourselves. There is no separation in the slightest sense. We’re made of the same stuff as animals and plants, and share the mechanisms that drive creation itself. A magnificent Whole that interconnects, where One contains All and every level is included to launch the next.
Life is wired to create more Life! No matter what we do, it will infinitely self-organize. It cannot help but continuously evolve and even uses crisis as part of its resolve. So those who don’t learn and change their worldview will be wiped out and become part of a larger breakthrough — awaiting is a brand-new phase, with access granted to those who humble their ways.
Time to wake up and rise to the truth: You are nature, and nature is You.
